Santur is a stringed-pounding instrument. Its sound is produced by the pounding of Santur hammers on strings and because of that, it has considered as a pounding instrument not a picking one.

Santur has two types of strings, yellow and white strings. White strings are on the left bridges and the yellow strings are on the right bridges. On every bridge is 4 same sound and tune in strings that make the sound of one note. The sound of white strings are more treble than the yellow strings. Santur has 72 strings and nine bridges in every row. It is tuned up by the tuning pin on the right frame of instrument.

Some of the contemporary Santur players are: Habbib Samai, Faramarz Payvar, Majid Kiani, Pashang Kamkar, and Ardavan Kamkar.

  • Playing Santur since 1990 and More than 15 years’ experience in teaching Santur.
  • Dependent member of Music Association in the Music House of Iran since 2003.
  • Special member of the Music Association of Guilan Province since 2000.
  • The first place in playing Santur from the First Traditional Music Festival of Guilan Province in December 2000
  • Participation in the 21st Fajr International Music Festival with the Iranian Plectrum Orchestra under the supervision of Professor Hossein Dehlavi / 2005
  • Participated in the 22nd Fajr Music Festival, along with the Mehrab Music Group/ 2006
  • Participated in the music festival of Isfahan, along with the Mehrab Music Group in March 2006
  • Composer and Santur player in the performing concerts along with Arghavan music group in Tehran and other cities from 2005 to 2007.
  • Concert Performance in the Music Group of Tehran Art Province – 2006 / Delshodegan Music Group 2005-2006 / Deldadegan Music Group 2008
  • Composing and releasing the “Broken sail” music album with the voice of Hossein Alishapour, published by “Chaharbagh” in 2011
